Age - In order to deploy with DMAT NY4, you must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Physical/Mental -  A member should be physically and mentally up to the challenge.   Deployments can inflict a great deal of physical and mental stress on a member.  A fit body and a level head go a long way in helping members be capable and effective while deployed.  A history that includes the ability to work well with others is required.

Federal Employee - All applicants must be accepted by the National Disaster Medical System/HHS  for intermittent employee status. This is not a trivial chore!  Applicants will first be interviewed by a member of the team Command Staff.  Applicants must pass a federal background security check, and file a number of forms.  Each member will receive federal identification from HHS/NDMS which is required prior to deployment. Please note that appointment to NDMS/HHS DMAT positions are NOT full-time jobs and paid employment status is only in effect during authorized deployments and approved Field Training Exercises.  You must meet NDMS/HHS classification and qualifications for a position.

Pre-requisite training;  The following FEMA/NIMS courses must be completed prior to application submission to NDMS/HHS  They include IS  100.a or 100 HC, 200.a, or 200.HC, 700.a, and 800.b. Courses are online and can be accessed at the FEMA training website at http://training.fema.gov/IS/NIMS.asp  NDMS also requires team members to complete team online training at the Responder E-Learn site.

Appointment Process - An Applicant must be qualified for the position requested (see below) and meet the above qualifications. Those wishing to join DMAT NY4 must be approved by DMAT leadership and NDMS/HHS.    Applicants will be denied membership on the team due to a failure to pass a back-ground check.  Each member is also required to maintain certification/licensure, vaccinations and participate in team activities.

Field Exercise - All members who wish to deploy must first attend a week-end field training exercise that includes an over-night stay.

Team members are expected to continue as active and supportive members through participation in team activities including; drills, planning meetings, and trainings.
